THE PARIS NEWS, Aug. 12, 2005: “Charles Eugene Thielman, 85, of Paris died Thursday, Aug. 11, 2005, at Paris Regional Medical Center. Services are set for 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 15, at Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Frank Thielman, the Rev. John Kelley and the Rev. Steve Cook officiating. Burial follows at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home. Music will be provided by Miss Elizabeth Leddy playing ‘His Eye is on the Sparrow’ and Bill Lancaster singing ‘The Lord’s Prayer’ and other hymns of the church. The family receives friends at 9:30 a.m. Monday preceding the service at the funeral home. He was born Sept. 27, 1919, in Paris, the son of C. H. and Mae Hayes Thielman. On June 1, 1947, he married Dorothy Louise Webb in Paris. They have one son, Albert Lee Thielman. A graduate of Paris High School and Paris Junior College, he received his bachelor’s degree in physics and mathematics from Texas Tech University and his Master of Arts degree in physics and mathematics from Texas A&M University-Commerce. He always took advantage of opportunities through summer sessions to advance his knowledge of the field of math and science, often taking students with him. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in Company B, 111th Medical Battalion and the Army Signal Corp. in the South Pacific from 1940 until 1946. Having served with General Douglas McArthur’s Advance Unit in the Philippines, he retired with the rank of First Lieutenant and served in the Army Reserve until 1955. He taught physics and mathematics at Paris High School from 1948 until 1979, serving as chairman of the public school math program for the Paris Independent School District and business manager of the athletic department at Paris High School. A member of Faith Presbyterian Church, he was an elder and Sunday school teacher. In addition, he helped organize the Presbyterian Church of America and continued to serve on various PCA committees. In 1969, he initiated the Men’s Prayer Breakfast. He was a member of the Gideon’s; Masonic Order, where he received his 60-year pin this year; Texas State Teachers’ Association; Paris Classroom Teachers; the National Education Association; American Association of Physics Teachers; the Northeast Texas Retired Teachers’ Association; the Paris Gun Club; Friends of the Paris Public Library; the Paris Junior College Alumni and Friends Association; and the Paris Regional Medical Center Auxiliary. He loved to fish, hunt and train bird dogs. He and his wife enjoyed traveling and visiting with their grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Mr. Travis Thielman and Mr. Melvin Thielman of Paris and the Rev. Calvin Thielman of Montreat, N.C.; his twin sister, Ms. Allene Steimer of Dallas. Survivors include his wife of 58 years; his son; his grandsons, Zeke Thielman of Florida and Jake Thielman of San Marcos; his granddaughter, Christa and husband, Jason Routh, of Illinois; his brother, Henry and wife, Marchita Thielman, of Paris; his sister, Hazel and husband, Lloyd Wright, of Hooks; his sisters-in-law, Ms. Dorothy Thielman of North Carolina and Ms. Emmaloyd Thielman, Ms. Virginia Thielman and Ms. Emmie Jane Stewart, all of Paris and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Mr. Bobby Walters, Dr. Jack Troutt, Mr. Bruce Hood, Mr. J. W. Ashmore, Mr. Bob Norment, Mr. Ray Page, Dr. Michael Leddy and Jerry Stephens. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Gideon’s. Memorials may be made to Faith Presbyterian Church of the Gideon’s. And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28.“

CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
     WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and meaningful accomplishments may comfort the family and friends of Charles Eugene Thielman of Paris, who passed away on August 11, 2005, at the age of 85; and
     WHEREAS, Mr. Thielman was born on September 27, 1919, to C. H. and Mae Hayes Thielman and graduated from Paris High School and Paris Junior College; he later earned his bachelor’s degree from Texas Tech University and his master’s degree from Texas A&M University--Commerce; and 
     WHEREAS, A veteran of World War II, this notable Texan served in Company B, 111th Medical Battalion, and the Army Signal Corps in the South Pacific from 1940 to 1946; he left the army with the rank of first lieutenant after having served with General Douglas MacArthur’s advance unit in the Philippines and was a member of the U.S. Army Reserve until 1955; and
     WHEREAS, Following his return to civilian life, Mr. Thielman taught physics and mathematics at Paris High School for more than 30 years; he chaired the Paris Independent School District math program and was business manager of the high school’s athletic department; and
     WHEREAS, He was also active in a number of civic, professional, and religious organizations; a member of Faith Presbyterian Church, where he was an elder and Sunday school teacher, he was instrumental in the founding of the Presbyterian Church of America and served on many of its committees; he was a 60-year member of the Masonic Order and gave of his time and talents to the Gideons, the Texas State Teachers Association, the Paris Classroom Teachers, the National Education Association, the American Association of Physics Teachers, the Northeast Texas Retired Teachers Association, the Paris Gun Club, Friends of the Paris Public Library, the Paris Junior College Alumni and Friends Association, and the Paris Regional Medical Center Auxiliary; and
     WHEREAS, A cherished husband, father, and grandfather, Charles Thielman will long be remembered for his love of family and community, and although he will be deeply missed, his memory will live on in the hearts of those whose lives he so richly blessed; now, therefore, be it
     RESOLVED, That the 79th Legislature of the State of Texas, 2nd Called Session, hereby pay special tribute to the life of Charles Eugene Thielman and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife of 58 years, Dorothy Louise Webb Thielman; to his son, Albert Lee Thielman; to his grandsons, Zeke and Jake Thielman; to his granddaughter, Christa Routh, and her husband, Jason; to his brother, Henry Thielman, and his wife, Marchita; to his sister, Hazel Wright, and her husband, Lloyd; to his sisters-in-law, Dorothy, Emmaloyd, and Virginia Thielman and Emmie Jane Stewart; and to his many other relatives and friends; and, be it further
     RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory of Charles Eugene Thielman.
