THE PARIS NEWS, Feb. 24, 2005: ' L. W. 'Dub' Bassett, 87, of Paris died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2005, in Paris Regional Medical Center. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 25, in Lamar Avenue Church of Christ with Patrick Cannon, Dr. John Cannon and Elmer L'Roy officiating. Interment follows in Evergreen Cemetery under the direction of Gene Roden's Sons Funeral Home. The family receives friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. He was born June 14, 1917, in Sulphur Springs, the son of Wallace and Essie Davis Bassett. He married Naomi Maynard on Aug. 7, 1938, in Cooper. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army in the Pacific, moving to Paris in 1953. He graduated from East Texas Teachers College. He was with First National Bank of Paris for 28 years, retiring as a senior vice president. He was one of the founders of Lamar National Bank and served as chairman of the board until his death. He was past president of Lions Club of Paris, treasurer of Red River Valley Foundation for 30 years and served as deacon and elder of Lamar Avenue Church for 50 years. He loved and was dedicated to his church, family, banking and golf. Survivors include his wife, Naomi Bassett of Paris; sons, Gary Bassett and Johnny Bassett, both of Paris; daughter, Linda Henny and husband, Geoff, of Ann Arbor, Mich.; granddaughters, Erin Turner and Dana Turner, both of Ann Arbor; grandson, Michael Bassett of Waxahachie; and several nieces and nephews.'
