THE PARIS NEWS, Monday, August 29, 2016, page 3: “Joe Pleasant Birlew, 88 of Clarksville, passed away, Saturday, Aug. 27, 2016, at Clarksville Nursing Center. Mr. Birlew was a very kind and loving man. He loved playing the guitar and enjoyed playing at the area senior centers. He was born June 18, 1928, in Valliant, Oklahoma, to Elbert and Ethel Culliver Birlew. He was a member of the Chisum Trails Cowboy Church. His wife, Fay Birlew, preceded him in death. Joe was retired from the city of Grand Prairie. Funeral services are set for 10:30 a.m. on Sept. 5, 2016, in Lindeman chapel of Clarksville Funeral Home with James McCloud officiating. Burial will follow in Union Grove Cemetery under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 4-6 p.m. at Clarksville Funeral Home. Pallbearers are Joe Birlew, Steve Birlew, Billy Mitchell, J.P. Harvey, Charles Jackson and Paul Smith. Survivors include two sons, Joe Edward Birlew and wife, Carrie of Clarksville and Stephen Earl Birlew and wife, Tereasa of McKinney; one sister, Eula Fay Hope of Quannah; and three grandsons, Ricky, Scott and Daniel Birlew.
