THE PARIS NEWS, Apr. 29, 2009: “Sterling Thomas Templeton Sr., 81, of Paris passed from this life on Monday, April 27, 2009, at Paris Healthcare Center. Funeral services are to be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 1, in the chapel of Starrett Funeral Home with Pastor David Gillian officiating. Interment follows in Rockford Cemetery. The family receives friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. He was born Sept. 27, 1927, in Lamar County, a son of Rufus Arthur and Eula Mae McFadden Templeton. He attended Hazeldell School in Lamar County, then entered the United States Army, serving in the Philippines. Following his active duty he served in the Texas National Guard. A member of Tudor Street Gospel Mission, he was an ironworker, retiring in 1989 as a journeyman rodman. He was an avid gardener and the consummate family man. A man of benevolence and giving, he reached out to all he knew. His family went far beyond the children he bore. He married Mary Lois Watson on Dec. 17, 1947, in Paris. She preceded him in death on April 9, 2004. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Templeton, and three sisters, Virginia Crawford, Mary Alice Simmons and Ruthie Parsons. He is survived by two sons, Sterling Thomas Templeton Jr. of Irving and Rick Templeton and wife, Alice, of Grand Prairie; four daughters, Glenda White and husband, Perry, of Irving, Norma Williams and husband, Wesley, Zita Templeton, Jennifer Johnson and husband, Dave, all of Paris; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and a sister, Johnnie Marie Benedict, of Paris. Serving as pallbearers will be Jereel Parsons, Jimmy Parsons, Jack Hatch, Terry Simmons, Stan Simmons, Nicholas Hill, James Williams and Gene Thompson. The family expresses their gratitude and appreciation for the staff of Mays Home Health & Hospice and to the Paris Healthcare Center for their loving concern and tender care. Friends may register in Sterling’s Book of Memories at www.starrettfunerals.com.”
