THE PARIS NEWS, Feb 5, 2013: “Darlene Brown Baxter, 74, of Sulphur Springs died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, at her home. Funeral services will be held at Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home at 2 p.m. on Wednesday Feb. 6, 2013, with the Rev. Mike Shupp officiating. Burial will follow in McDonald Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-7 p.m. on Tuesday. Darlene was born in Direct on Aug. 7, 1938, a daughter of William Joseph and Lillie Lee Smith Brown. She married Howard Preston Baxter on July 16, 1954, in Clovis, N.M. They spent 46 years together enjoying going to flea markets and antiquing. They raised six children of their own and raised a grandson, Chip Thomas, after the death of their daughter, Brenda. There were many other children they considered their own. They also enjoyed spending time with their family playing games and cards. She was of the Baptist faith. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Howard; daughter, Brenda D. Baxter; brothers, Bill, Jimmie ‘Buddy’ and J.W. Brown; and a sister, Elsie Young. She is survived by children, Paula Brown, Howard Baxter Jr. and wife Deana, Sandra Dawson, of Sulphur Springs; Glenda Wood and Jeff Sessums, of Paris, and Trish Bounds and husband, John, of Blossom; grandchildren, Chris Baxter, Chip Thomas, Christi Long, Carolyn Rigby, Cory Moore, Brian Baxter, Tabitha Blackburn, Jason Wood, Justin Wood, Amanda Dawson, Jordan Dawson and Derek Atnip; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous others that were family to her that called her ‘grandma.’ She is also survived by a sister, Jewell Ellsworth, of Cooper; and brothers, Rex Brown of Venus and David Lewis ‘PQ’ of Lubbock. Pallbearers will be Howard Baxter Jr., Brian Baxter, Justin Wood, Jordan Dawson, Derek Atnip, James Baxter, Jr., Chris Baxter and Caton Thomas. Honorary pallbearer will be John Bounds.
