THE PARIS NEWS, Apr. 13, 2010: “HONEY GROVE, Mary Evelyn Dykes Thurman, 67, of Roxton went to be with her Lord April 11, 2010, surrounded by her loving family at Paris Regional Medical Center in Paris. Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 14, at Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home Chapel in Honey Grove. Rev. Terry Paul Cunningham is to officiate. Interment follows in Hickory Grove Cemetery in Petty. Visitation is scheduled for 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, in Cooper-Sorrells Chapel. She was born Aug. 21, 1942, the daughter of Sam Washington and Sarah Elizabeth Caffee Dykes. She married Johnny Clyde Thurman in Honey Grove Nov. 2, 1962. She was a member of the Honey Grove First Baptist Church. She had retired from the Honey Grove I.S.D. as a bookkeeper after 18 years of service. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam Washington and Sarah Elizabeth Dykes; her husband, Johnny Thurman; and brother, Oliver Dykes. She is survived by two daughters, Caron Thurman and Vickie Terrell, both of Roxton; and two grandsons, Kameron Terrell and Matthew Robinson, both of Roxton; sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and Harvey McLean of Arlington; aunt, Dorthy Tucker of Mount Vernon, Wash.; three uncles, Clyde Dykes, Allen Dykes and Bobby Dykes. She is also survived by brother-in-law and wife, Mack and Jean Thurman of Paris; brother-in-law and wife, Bill and Mary Ann Thurman of Honey Grove; brother-in-law, George Thurman of Honey Grove; brother-in-law and wife, Charles and Lucille Thurman of Irving; sister-in-law and husband, Thelma Jo and J. P. Wheeles of Irving; brother-in-law and wife, Gene and Helen Thurman of Savoy; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Pallbearers are Brian Massie, Robert Milton, Harvey Lynn Milton, John Decker, Steve Thurman and Jeff Clark. For online condolences visit www.coopersorrells.com.”
