Notes

THE PARIS NEWS, Jan. 18, 2005: "Charles ‘Red’ Barber, 63, of Paris died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005, in Council Bluff, Iowa. Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 20, in Paris Revival Chapel with the Rev. Bill Butler officiating. Interment follows in Evergreen Cemetery under the direction of Gene Roden’s Sons Funeral Home. The family receives friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 19, at the funeral home. He was born Charles Wesley Barber on Dec. 3, 1941, in Biardstown, the son of Charlie Andrew and Ethel Gage Barber. He married Bertha Jones on Aug. 4, 1984, in Paris. She preceded him in death on Oct. 6, 2003. He was employed as a truck driver for Tyson Food Company for the last 11 years. He received several safety awards, one last year for one million miles without an accident. He received a heroic commendation for saving a family’s life in California. Tyson Foods was a good employer and a good friend to him and his family before and after his death. He was a member of Paris Revival Chapel. He always made sure he wasn’t out on the road for any month with a fifth Friday in it, because he wanted to be at his church for the singing on those days. He loved children and they lovingly called him Papa Red. He was preceded in death by his son, Stoney Barber. Survivors include his daughter, Stacy Echols and husband, Brad, of Hurst; sisters, Tommie Morales and husband, Armando, of Houston, Betty Jones of Florida and Julie Oaks and husband, Paul, of Quitman; brother, Lonnie Barber and wife, Karen, of Lewisville; sisters-in-law, Patricia Jones and Mary Van Riper both of Paris; and three grandchildren, Ryan Echols, Kelsey Echols and Jessica Echols, all of Hurst."
