THE PARIS NEWS, Jan. 15, 2006: "Leonard 'Herschel' Brooks, 81, of Paris passed away Dec. 14, 2005, at Paris Regional Medical Center after several months of illness. Memorial services will be held and announced at a later date. Gene Roden's Sons Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements. He was born Oct. 3, 1924, in Paris, the son of Lillian and Bruce Brooks. He resided in Paris for the majority of his life. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He worked on the Southern Pacific Railroad until he retired. Survivors include two daughters, Christine Grey of Olympia, Wash., Rhonda Hamilton of Halton City; his son, Gary Brooks of Grand Prairie; stepchildren, Pat Thompson, Ralph Crews, Donna Boydston, Mike Crews, Willie Crews, J. D. Crews and Clyde Crews, all of Paris; 24 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Helen Rodgers of Wylie and Frances Prater of Carrollton."
Tombstone is inscribed, 'S Sgt US Army Air Forces World War II.'
