THE PARIS NEWS, Sept. 26, 2004: 'ANGLETON, Herbert E. Bridges, 79, of Angleton passed away Thursday, Sept. 23, 2004, in a Houston hospital. Funeral services are set for 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 27, at Palms Funeral Home in Angleton. Burial follows in Angleton Cemetery. Visitation is set for 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Palms Funeral Home in Angleton. He was born on July 14, 1925, in Paris and moved to the Angleton area in 1978. He served his country in the Merchant Marines, was a member of Pipefitters Local 390, and a Dow retiree. He loved his family and was commonly known as 'Granddaddy.' He never met a stranger and was an avid fisherman and wood worker. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charley and Martha Stroud Bridges; his first wife, Mary Bridges; three sisters; and one brother. Survivors include his wife, Margaret Bridges; four sons, Herbert Jr. and wife, Marilyn, of Kyle, Kenny of Longview, Billy and wife, Sharla, of Angleton, and Lynn and wife, Kay, of Angleton; two brothers, Cleba Bridges and Luther Bridges, both of Paris; one sister Mary Alice Van Metre of Paris; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Serving as pallbearers will be Jim Bridges, Chuck Bridges, Jeremy Bridges, David Stockton, Randy Chadwick and Ricky Beard.'
