THE PARIS NEWS, Feb. 09, 2004: 'James B. 'Bill' Tarrant, 81, of Paris, formerly of Denison, died Sunday Feb. 8, 2004, in Paris at the home of his daughter Sally, with whom he had lived since becoming ill. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday Feb. 10, in the chapel of Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Doug Miller and the Rev. Jim Goodwin officiating. Interment rites will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Collin County. The family will be at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Doug (Sally) Miller. He was born June 2, 1922, in Josephine, a son of William Wendell and Juliet Elizabeth Prater Tarrant. He was schooled in Dallas, and then entered the U.S. Navy, where he served in the Seabees during World War II and the Korean Conflict. After serving 20 years in the military, he retired and was employed by NASA, where he worked for another 20 years in the transportation department of the General Services Administration in Houston. Receiving his barbering license in 1964, he volunteered his services in nursing homes and the Veteran's Administration. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Paris, and formerly a member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Denison and Pasadena Boulevard United Methodist Church in Pasadena. He enjoyed service to his church in the United Methodist Men, his Sunday school class and was a member of the U.S. Naval Fleet Reserve. His life was one of dedication and service to others, as he was a longtime volunteer for Meals on Wheels and other charitable organizations. Known as 'Mr. Fixit,' his mechanical skills gave him the unique ability to do a myriad of repairs, for his family, friends, and church. A lover of the early morning, he was a great waffle chef and breakfast cook. He never considered his free time as his own, and used it in service to his family, God, and his fellow man. He married Dorothy Margaret Hickman on June 21, 1952 in Great Lakes, Ill. He was preceded in death by his mother; and two brothers, Ray Wendell Tarrant and Durwood Tarrant. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Sally Miller and husband, Doug, of Paris, and Margaret Jo Hayot Shankles and husband, James Marion Jr., of Denison; three grandsons, Daniel Adien Hayot of Dallas, Nathan James Hayot of Denison, and Jonathan William Hayot of Denison; two granddaughters, Sarah Elizabeth Miller of Austin and Rachel Ann Miller of Paris; a sister, Tommie Jo Koerner, of Mount Ida, Ark.; and several nieces and nephews. Serving as pallbearers will be Doug Miller, James Shankles, Daniel Hayot, Nathan Hayot, Jonathan Hayot, and Stan Haddock. If desired, memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 101 Hwy. 69, East Denison, Texas 75020; or First United Methodist Church, 322 Lamar Ave., Paris, Texas 75460.'
