THE PARIS NEWS, Feb. 15, 2004: 'COOPER, Benjamin Franklin Beard of Abilene passed away Friday, Feb. 13, 2004. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Delta Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Johnny Witherspoon officiating. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday. He was born on Oct. 14, 1935, in Paris. He attended Paris schools and later served in the Korean War. He was a heavy equipment operator and had worked for several years on the Alaskan Pipeline installation. He was retired and living in Abilene. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Dorothy Lee Beard and Mary Beard Bridges. Survivors include his wife, Marlene; a daughter, Vickey; two sons, John and Benny; two grandchildren; two brothers, Jack and Fred; and two sisters, Ruby Bridges and Betty Holcomb.'
