THE PARIS NEWS, July 30, 2003: 'Silas Joe Birdsong, 76, of Sumner died Monday, July 28, 2003, at his home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 31, at Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Cary Robinson and the Rev. Othoe Stegall officiating. Burial will follow in Pyles Cemetery with Masonic Rites. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 30, at the funeral home. He was born April 19, 1927, in Iron Stob, Okla., a son of John Wesley and Mary Jane Garrett Birdsong. He married Geraldine Winton June 23, 1952, in Paris. He served his country in the Army during the Korean War. He retired from Babcock and Wilcox Co. after working for 19 years. He was a Mason and a member of Lakeway Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Brazier. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Geraldine; four children, Ginger Rose of Mount Vernon, Dickie Birdsong of Paris, David Birdsong of Gordon, Ala., and James Birdsong of Paris; grandchildren, Monti Austin, Jodi Birdsong, Geri Birdsong, Heather Birdsong, Dustin, Megan and Chelsea Birdsong and Jessica Sulsar; great-grandchildren, Josh and Sarah Austin; brothers, Doc Birdsong of Oklahoma City, Okla., Troy Birdsong of Plainview and Luther Birdsong of Amarillo; and sisters, Clara Kirby of Artesia, N.M. and Dessie McNeely of Pittsburg. Pallbearers will be Duke Spencer, George Spencer, Tommy Frazier, Joe Pridemore, Ray Freeman, Marshall Sugg and Jodi Birdsong.'
