THE PARIS NEWS, Jan. 09, 2003: 'Nora E. Barnett, 79, of Deport died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003, at Deport Nursing Home. Graveside rites will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10, in Springhill Cemetery with the Rev. Matt Smith officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, at Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home. She was born Sept. 18, 1923, in Hugo, Okla., a daughter of Henry Ike and Ada Cooper Long. She attended public schools in Oklahoma and was a homemaker. She married Essie Ray Barnett on July 1, 1945, in Hugo. He preceded her in death in July, 1982. Survivors include four sons, Tommy Barnett of Houston, Jimmy Dean Barnett and wife, Sandy, of Wautaga, Varnel Barnett and wife, Mary, of Paris and Ricky Barnett and wife, Shannon, of Crandall; four daughters, Cookie Hill of Dallas, Rita Thompson of Blossom, Katy Ramsey and Bobby Smith of Blossom and Diane Carter and husband, Ronnie, of Dallas; 24 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Marady Gibson of New Mexico; a brother-in-law, Walter Welch, of Detroit; a sister-in-law, Kathryn Barnett; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff of Deport Nursing Home for their love, care and attentiveness to her needs during the years of her illness.'
