THE PARIS NEWS, Nov. 08, 2002: 'Rodger Wayne Thompson, 55, of Corinth died Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002, at the Paris United Pentecostal Church with the Rev. Robert Myre and the Rev. Wayne Weatheread officiating. Burial will follow in the Forest Hill Cemetery under the direction of Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. He was born April 3, 1947, in Paris, a son of Bobby Wayne and Helen Elizabeth Shepard Thompson. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the Pentecostals of Corinth. Survivors include a daughter, Monica Thompson Rhodes and husband, Steve, of Tigertown; grandchildren, Savannah Elizabeth Rhodes and Stephen Samuel Rhodes; his mother, Helen Thompson; a grandmother, Emma Elizabeth Horton; a brother, Roy Edward Thompson; sisters, Elizabeth Ann Miller and husband, Larry, of Plano, Charlotte Louise Cunningham and husband, Rorry, of Corinth, Brenda Gale Smith and husband, Charles, of Clarksville. Serving as pallbearers will be Eddie Dean Hicks, Don Hicks, Charles Hicks, Emory Banker, Danny Banker and Brandon Thompson.'

He was surrounded by his family at his residence in Corinth. Funeral services were held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at the Paris United Pentecostal Church with the Rev. Robert Myre and the Rev. Wayne Weatheread officiating. Burial followed at Forest Hill Cemetery under the direction of Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home. He was born April 3, 1947, in Paris, a son of Bobby Wayne and Helen Elizabeth Shepard Thompson. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served his country in Vietnam where he was awarded the Bronze Star twice. He was preceded in death by his father Bobby Wayne Thompson, his paternal grandparents and maternal grandfather. Survivors include a daughter, Monica Thompson Rhodes and husband, Steve, of Tigertown; grandchildren, Savannah Elizabeth Rhodes and Stephen Samuel Rhodes; his mother, Helen Thompson Hill; his adoring grandmother, Emma Elizabeth Horton; a brother, Eddie Thompson of Paris; sisters, Elizabeth Ann Miller and husband, Larry, of Plano, Charlotte Cunningham and husband, R. J., of Corinth, and Brenda Smith and husband, Charles, of Clarksville. Serving as pallbearers will be Eddie Dean Hicks, Don Hicks, Charles Hicks, Emory Banker, Danny Banker and Brandon Thompson. Your life was exactly what God told us it would be, short and full of trouble. The young boy that went to serve his country in Vietnam never came home and the man that came back to us never truly found his place in this life. Now you are home. Rest, daddy. We will see you soon.
