THE PARIS NEWS, Aug. 01, 2002: "Robert B. ‘Bob’ Beard, 89, of Memphis, Tenn., died Monday, July 29, 2002, in Memphis. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, in the chapel of Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home with Dr. Raymond Armstrong officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery under the direction of Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Friday. He was born March 16, 1913, in Lamar County, a son of William Love and Eudora Bradley Beard. He attended Paris schools and was a machinist for American Box Company for 52 years. He was a former deacon in the First Christian Church of Paris, a Boy Scout leader and a member of the Lion’s Club. He married Verdie Cummings on Feb. 17, 1939, in Hugo, Okla., and they shared a life for over 63 years. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Damie Lee Marcrum; two brothers, Thomas A. Beard and William Love Beard Jr.; and a sister, Mable Beard Haley. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Julia Ann Beard Marcrum of Memphis, Tenn; a grandson, Charles E. Marcrum of Memphis; a brother, Ralph Beard and wife Merle of Paris; two sisters, Marguerite Beard and Virginia Watson, both of Paris; two sisters-in-law, Willie C. Cummings of Paris and Marie Cummings Hubbard of Gun Barrel City; and numerous nieces and nephews. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church of Paris."
