THE PARIS MORNING NEWS, Thursday, October 16, 1941: “SWEETWATER (AP) - A wreck involving three trucks and an automobile on Highway 80, 17 miles east of here [Sweetwater] Wednesday night, killed Zackaria N. Barnett, 31, of RFD 6, Paris, Texas. James Lenoir received a fractured leg.”

THE PARIS NEWS, Sunday, October 19, 1941, p. 3: “Funeral For Victim Of West Texas Truck Accident Held Friday. Funeral service was held Friday afternoon at Novice community church for Zachariah Nathaniel Barnett of Paris, Rt. 6, killed in an automobile collision, Wednesday night 17 miles east of Sweetwater, on U.S. Highway 80. The Rev. John Shuler of Calvary Methodist Church here officiated and interment was made at Novice. The truck in which Barnett was riding crashed into two other trucks which had just been wrecked. James Lenoir, who was with him at the time, suffered a leg fracture. Barnett was born in Little River County, Ark., March 3, 1910 and had lived in Lamar County in 1922. He married Miss Demar Dosson [Dema L. Dawson] in 1923 [Oct. 17, 1930], and she and three of their four children, Velma, Imogene and Bobbie Lee survive, besides his mother and these brothers and sisters: Ernest Barnett of Big Springs; James Barnett of Winthrop, Ark., Mrs. Edith Sandersof Oak Hill and Mrs. Ida McClain of Madill.”

THE PARIS NEWS, Friday, October 25, 1940, p. 1, 6-9: Draft numbers, with the names and addresses of all the men who registered under the Selective Service Act October 16, are to be found in the Paris News today. The series of both Lamar County boards, totaling 5,791 names, are to be found from pages 6 to 9. The numbers are listed serially and it will be necessary to check the list until the registrant’s name can be found. With the vast number of men registering, it was impossible to arrange the names in alphabetical order after they had been serially arranged by the draft boards.
