THE PARIS NEWS, May 16, 2002: "Raymond S. Birdwell, 81, of Paris died Wednesday, May 15, 2002 at Christus St. Joseph’s Hospital South at which time Bright-Holland Funeral Home received him into their care. Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, May 18 at the funeral home chapel with Dr. Randall Perry officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. He was born Jan. 31, 1921 in Boswell, Okla., the son of Wesley Lee and Eva Hill Birdwell. He married Geraldine Speer on Jan. 9, 1943 in Lubbock. He received his Master’s of Arts degree from Texas A&M University. During World War II, he was a B-17 pilot with the U.S. Air Force and flew 35 missions over Germany. He taught agriculture at Sherman High School for eight years and then became a district salesman for Ralston-Purina until his retirement. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Paris. He was preceded in death by a brother, Olen Birdwell and a sister, Ruby Jackson. Survivors include his wife; three children, Raymond S. Birdwell Jr. of Waco, Dr. Larry Birdwell and wife DeeAnn of Austin and Deborah Chambers of Paris; two grandchildren, Lauren Birdwell and Rhiannon Chambers; two brothers, Weldon Birdwell and wife Billie of Temple and John Birdwell of Bonham; sister-in-law, Lillian Birdwell of Bonham; and several nieces and nephews."
On the same stone with Geraldine J. Birdwell. Also has military marker inscribed, "1st LT US Army Air Forces World War II.'
