THE PARIS NEWS, Apr. 21, 2002: 'J. C. Bates, 75, of Powderly, died Thursday, April 18, 2002 in Christus St. Joseph's Hospital-North. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 22 at Powderly Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Moore officiating. Fry and Gibbs Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements. Mr. Bates was born Aug. 8, 1926 in Hugo, Okla., to Henry and Beulah Chadwick Bates. He married Ada Cordelia Arnold on Dec. 15, 1948 in Lordsburg, N.M. He served his country during World War II as part of the 6th Army division in the Philippine Islands. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Powderly Baptist Church. Mr. Bates was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Laura Mae Humphrey and Ruby Faye Sangioli. He is survived by his wife Ada of Powderly; three children, Eugene Bailey and wife Judy of Fontana, Calif., Judy Mae Halterman of Grapevine and Clifton Bates and wife Arlene of Ponder; seven grandchildren, Scott and Daniel Halterman, both of Fort Worth, Patricia Quinn and Michael Bates of Ponder and Shelia, Sharon and Sharlotte Bailey of Fontana, Calif.; and one brother, Hershel Bates of Antlers, Okla. www.legacy.com'
