THE PARIS NEWS, Jan. 31, 2002: 'Jess Birdsong, 82, of Brookston, died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002, at Christus St. Joseph's Hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, in the chapel of Fry and Gibbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Othoe Stegall officiating. Interment will follow in the Georgia Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Mr. Birdsong was born Nov. 1, 1919, in Boswell, Okla., a son of John Wesley and Mary Jane Garrett Birdsong. He attended Boswell public schools and was a member of the Date Street Baptist Church in Planview. While living in Plainview, he worked for Green Machinery Irrigation, and then for Lamar County Precinct 2, as a mechanic. He married Daisy Spencer on Dec. 22, 1952, in Paris. Survivors include his wife; a son, Steve Birdsong and wife Necie of Roxton; two daughters, Polly Maxelwell and husband Rick of Paris and Janell Allen and husband Eddie of Paris; three grandchildren, J. D. Birdsong of Roxton, and Melissa and Ethan Allen, both of Paris; four brothers, Dock Birdsong of Oklahoma City, Troy Birdsong of Plainview, Joe Birdsong of Sumner; and Luther Birdsong of Paris; two sisters, Clara Dee Kirby of Aretesia, N.M., and Dessie McNeeley of Pittsburg, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers. Pallbearers will be J. D. Birdsong, David Scroggins, Edgie Clements, Billy Don Spencer, Ronald Daniel, and Dean Springfield. Honorary bearers will be the employees of Lamar County Precinct 2 County Barn. www.legacy.com'
