THE PARIS NEWS, Feb. 19, 2002: 'Honey Grove, Mrs. Dovie Brunson, 95, of Honey Grove, died Monday Feb. 18, 2002. Services will be Thursday, Feb. 21, at 10 a.m. at Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Billy Norris officiating. Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery at Ben Franklin. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Thursday until service time at the funeral home. Surviving are two sons, Homer Brunson of Garland and Curtis Brunson of Fate; a daughter, Ruth Barnett of Garland; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was the oldest living member of Petty Baptist Church at the time of her death.'
THE PARIS NEWS, Feb. 21, 2002: 'HONEY GROVE, Dovie Brunson, 95, of Honey Grove died Monday Feb. 18, 2002, in Honey Grove Nursing Center. Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home conducted services at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, with the Rev. Billy Norris officiating. Burial was made in Garden of Memories at Ben Franklin. Mrs. Brunson was born March 30, 1906, in Mount Vernon, to Newton Gus and Mary Jane Rorie Castleberry. She married John Homer Brunson on Dec. 22, 1922, and he died on Feb. 8, 1991. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Brunson was the oldest living member of Petty Baptist Church at the time of her death. She held the longest membership in Petty Baptist Church, having come into its fellowship by letter of transfer in 1942. She and Mr. Brunson taught their sons and daughters the Christian way of life at the little country church. Dovie loved little children and taught them in Sunday school and Bible school. She held the office of church clerk and served as janitor for years. She always had a smile for everyone. She was well known in the community for the fine work she did as a seamstress. She is survived by two sons, Homer Brunson of Garland and Curtis Brunson of Fate; a daughter, Ruth Barnett of Garland; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Rick Brunson, Edwin Brunson, Stan Brunson, Wayne Brunson, Roy Matlock and Royce Brunson.'
