LAMAR COUNTY INQUESTS, May 2, 1916 to December 1938, Transcribed by Betsy Mills: Lamar County Texas, Precinct One, Justice of the Peace, Inquest Record Book Number 1, Record 66; Name unknown, female infant, apparently prematurely born. Date of death: Unknown. Where died: El Bethel Cemetery. Date of inquest: Jan 28, 1937, 3:30 P.M. Where held: El Bethel Cemetery. Nature of information and by whom given: Information given J. H. Ratliff, Sheriff, by unknown person, that a body had been buried in El Bethel Cemetery by four unidentified men at night sometime about Christmas 1936. Finding by the Justice: Body of female infant apparently prematurely born, disinterred from shallow grave about 2 1/2 feet deep, in small wood box. Inside was found a shoe box made of paper and the body was inside it wrapped in newspapers and rags. I was not able to identify the body or to find out who buried it. Witnesses to disinterment: M. D. Emerson, Jack Reeves, J. H. Ratliff, Frank Davis. R. L. Johnson, Justice Peace, Precinct No. 1, Lamar County, Texas.
