THE PARIS NEWS, Sunday, March 25, 2001: 'Funeral services for Kathryn (Kitty) Birdsong, 87, of Longview will be held at 12 noon, Monday, March 26, 2001, at the chapel of Rader Funeral Home, 1617 Judson Road, Longview, with Rev. Bill Cunningham officiating. Mrs. Birdsong died Friday, March 23, 2001, in a local nursing home. She was born May 11, 1913, in Paris to C.E. and Leona Abshire. She had lived in Longview since 1936 and was a sales person at Martins, and in 1948 she and her husband, Horace, established the Birdsong Drug Store. She later established Kitty's Antiques and Needlepoint. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Newham Sunday School Class. She was very active in several civic organizations and was president of the Noon Day Pilot Club in 1952-1953 and held numerous other offices, as well. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Horace Birdsong of Longview; one sister, Marie Strickland of Lawton, Okla.; four brothers, Ralph Abshire, Gene Abshire and Robert Abshire, all of Ft. Worth and Jack Abshire of Paris; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Charles Abshire. Memorial contributions may be made to the Building Fund at First United Methodist Church, 400 North Fredonia St., Longview, Tex. 75601.'
