THE PARIS NEWS, Tuesday, February 6, 2001: 'CLARKSVILLE - Gary E. Townes, 55, Rt. 4, Clarksville, died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2001. Services will be at 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8 at Westside Church of Christ with James Rennaker and the Rev. Don Shovan officiating. Burial will be in Lanes Chapel Cemetery with Michael and Charlie Townes, J.P. Harvey, George Gordon, Jerry Phillips, and James Jones as pallbearers and men at Westside Church of Christ as honorary bearers. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. He was born Dec. 21, 1945, in Deport to John E. and Dorothy Cremeens Townes. He was a member of Westside Church of Christ and had served in the National Guard and Army Reserve. He was longtime manager of Magnolia Brush Manufacturing in Clarksville. Surviving are his wife, Donna Backus Townes; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John F. Townes of Clarksville; son, Gary E. Townes Jr. and wife Terri of Clarksville; daughter, Kelley Joplin and husband, Shane of Clarksville; sisters, Sue Giddens of Reno, Barbara Gibbs of Bogata and Annette Brown of Clarksville; a brother, Gerald Townes of Clarksville; and grandchildren, Blake and Dalton Joplin and Jon and Laura McCoy.'
