THE PARIS NEWS, Thursday, September 28, 2000, page 11A: 'HEMET, Calif. - Hershel Walter Battles, 87, of Hemet, Calif., died there Monday, Sept. 25, 2000. Memorial services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, at McWane Family Funeral Home in Hemet. Private burial services will be held. He was born July 20, 1913, in Paris and was an electrician for 64 years last working through Local No. 441 in Orange, Calif. He was a member of Hemet First Baptist Church, Hemet Masonic Lodge F&AM No.615, San Jacinto Masonic Lodge No. 338, 61 year and 32nd degree Mason, member of Scottish Rite, El Bekal Temple, Ramona Shrine Club, High Twelve Club, Tahquitz-Victoria Chapter 241, and Order of the Eastern Star. He was also a member of the Gavel Club, charter member of Texas City Texas Order of Eastern Star and enjoyed playing pool, duck hunting, fishing and yard work. He and his wife owned and operated an appliance store in Westminster, Calif. for 16 years. Surviving are daughters, Patricia Couveau and Sharon Battles, both of Hemet; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.'
