Notes
THE DETROIT NEWS-HERALD, 2 Nov 1933 from microfilm in Clarksville Library: 'Paris, Oct 26 -- R. W. Turman, 58, proprietor of a general store at Howland, 12 miles south of Paris, is dead, and a 15 year old boy, Leroy Whitten, is under arrest after admitting to Lamar County officers that he shot Turman with a small rifle, when surprised by the merchant while robbing his store. Turman died shortly after the shooting. The boy said he went to his home and hid the rifle and the $40, later found. Turman had gone home to dinner but returned to the store about 8:30 Thursday night. Upon opening the door 2 shots were fired at him from the darkened store. Services will be held at Howland Friday afternoon. He is survived by his wife of Howland, a son, Walter Turman, a daughter, Claire Turman and 3 sisters.' On the same stone with Zora C. Turman.
