THE PARIS NEWS, Monday, March 23 1936, p. 1-2: “THREE DEAD IN RED RIVER CAR MISHAPS. John Rogers, Negro, Killed Sunday; Others Die Saturday, Sunday. CLARKSVILLE. -- Death of John Henry Rogers, 25 year old Negro, in an automobile collision Sunday night, brought the death toll in Red River county from weekend traffic accidents to three besides the death of Mrs. Anna E. Erwin of Clarksville, resulting from an accident near Marshall Saturday night. Rogers was killed when the pickup truck in which he was riding was struck from the rear by a car whose driver was blinded by the lights of an approaching car. Officers investigating said the accident was unavoidable. Oscar V. Humphrey of Burkham community, injured in a crash near Johntown Saturday night, died at 8:30 o’clock Sunday morning at the Deport Sanitarium, Charles Burton (Bud) Isbell having died at the Sanitarium of Paris Saturday night. Miss Thelma James of McCruary was reported was reported resting well Monday at the Sanitarium of Paris, though seriously hurt. Isbell’s cousin Bob Isbell, returned to his home in Clarksville as did the Misses Vinie and Nina Alwane of McCurdy, their injury being of a minor nature. Funeral for Isbell a high school student was announced for 2 o’clock Monday afternoon at Deport. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Isbell.”
THE DETROIT NEWS-HERALD, 26 Mar 1936 from microfilm in Clarksville Library: “Chas. Burton Isbell, died at a Paris sanitarium Saturday night at Deport sanitarium Sunday at 8:30 a.m. from injuries received when the car in which he was riding struck a bridge on the highway between Bogata and Johntown Saturday night. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Isbell of Burkham Community, near Clarksville. Services were held at Deport Monday afternoon.”
