THE DETROIT NEWS-HERALD, 8 Oct 1936 from microfilm in Clarksville Library: “Deport Times -- Thomas Lafayette Bedford, 85, died Monday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Walter Bell, after a lengthy period of ill health. He was a resident of this section many years, was born Sep. 16, 1851 in Franklin County, Mississipi. He had been a member of the Methodist Church since 18 and was married to Mary Stampley. To this union 11 children were born, eight of whom survive. A farmer until advanced age caused his retirement, Mr. Bedford had made his home for some time with Mr. & Mrs. Bell. Funeral and burial were Tuesday at Union Grove Cemetery between Paris and Blossom, Rev. C. S. Wilhite, Deport Methodist pastor, conducting the service.”
