THE PARIS NEWS, Friday, Sept. 1, 2000, page 10A: 'Melva Aileen Bell, 97, of Paris died at 1:55 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 31, 2000, Crescent Care Center. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 2, in Fry and Gibbs Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Terrell Hill and the Rev. Julie Halstead officiating. Burial will be in Meadowbrook Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Mrs. Bell was born Dec. 19, 1907, in Lincoln County, Tenn., to Rufus and Violet Ann Hawkins. She attended public schools in Roxton and was a retired grocery clerk. A faithful member of Oak Park United Methodist Church, she was a member of the Winmore Class and participated in the church choir. She was a former member of the Gift Club. She married Horace Clyde 'Baldy' Bell Jan. 9, 1925, in Howland. He preceded her in death Sept. 24, 1966. Survivors include a son, Donald Bell and wife Patsy of Carrollton; two daughters, Patsy Rosson and Gwen Smith and husband Melvin, all of Paris; nine grandchildren, Don King, Debbie King, Kayla King, Jackie Spraggins, Doug Smith, Peggy Cassell, Jeff Rosson, Kenny Rosson and Luann Matney; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; a brother-in-law, A. J. Bell; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Dossie King; a grandson, Ron Bell; a son-in-law, Walter Rosson; a brother, Merlin Hawkins, and three sisters, Mrs. Claude Carroll, Mrs. Sam Ballard, and Mrs. Luke Coplin. Pallbearers will be Don King, John Rivers, Doug Smith, Bert Smith, Jeff Rosson, and Mike Cassell. If desired, memorials may be made to Oak Park United Methodist Church.' Grave location has not been verified and is assumed to be next to spouse.
