THE PARIS NEWS, Sunday, August 27, 2000, page 8A: 'Billy John Upchurch, 64, of Arthur City, Tex., died Saturday, Aug. 26, 2000, in McCuistion Regional Medical Center. Funeral services are Monday, Aug. 28, at 2 p.m. in the Roden Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Jerry Moore officiating. Burial is in the Red Hill Cemetery in Powderly. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday afternoon from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. He was born Nov. 30, 1935, in Paris and was formerly employed by Parham Construction Company. He was a Baptist. He was preceded in death by his father, John B. Upchurch, and a brother, Gaylon Upchurch. Surviving are his wife, Patsy Upchurch of Arthur City; sons, Billy Floyd Upchurch of Powderly, Willie Micheal and wife Billie Upchurch of Powderly, Jimmy Neil Upchurch of Arthur City, and James Lee Upchurch of Arthur City. Also surviving are his mother, Katie Hicks of Paris; two sisters, Mary Merritt and husband Billy of Paris and Darlyn Taylor of Paris; seven grandchildren, Michell Bishop and husband Jayson of Paris, Lisa Callicoat and husband Jeremy of Paris, Tabatha Harwell and husband Jeremy of Deport, Jade Upchurch of Arthur City, Brad Upchurch of Powderly, Micheal Upchurch of Paris, and Jeremy Upchurch of Arthur City; six great-grandchildren: Brandi, McKala, and Alecia Bishop, Grabrielle Harwell, and Tanner and Raegan Callicoat. Pallbearers are William W. Alley, Dale Miller, Rondal Genzel, John Hoover, Jodie Akins, and Billy Floyd Upchurch. Honorary pallbearers are Charles Grimes, Hal Rheudasil, and Paul Jarvis. Memorials may be made to the Detroit, Powderly, or Chicota volunteer fire departments.'
