Unnamed-Undated Newspaper: "Orvel O. Ballard, 72, of 1162 NE 14th, died Monday, January 30, 1978, in a local hospital. Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Leverett and Steele Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Pete Hanks and Mr. Haskell England officiating. Interment was made in Hopewell Cemetery. Mr. Ballard was born July 29, 1905, in Reno, son of James Allen Ballard and Dora Hall Ballard. He was employed by Hinkle Lumber Company and had lived all his live in the Paris area. He was a member of the Church of Christ. He was married to Rosie Morton. Other than he wife, survivors include six sons, Cecil Ballard of Austin, Willard Ballard of Blossom. Hershel Ballard, Dwayne Ballard and Orvel Neal Ballard all of Paris and Larry Ballard of Sylvan; one daughter Wanda Fay Montgomery of Paris; two brothers, Archie Ballard of Brookston and Oscar Ballard of Paris; a sister, Lydia Bryan of Paris; and 21 grandchildren.” Submitted by Linda Broyles.

He was born July 29, 1905 in Paris, Texas and was the son of James Allen Ballard (b. 30 Dec 1874, d. 6 Aug 1962) and Dora Elvira Hall (b. 22 May 1881, d. 3 Nov 1969). Orvel was married on April 11, 1934 to Rosie B. Helen Morton. Their children were:

    1. Cecil Otto Ballard and wife, Josephine;

    2. Willard Eugene Ballard and wife, Veronica;

    3. Hershel Allen Ballard and wife, Margaret;

    4. Dewayne Edward Ballard and wife, Kathy;

    5. Orvel Neal Ballard and wife, Bonnie;

    6. Wanda Fay (Montgomery) and husband Jim;

    7. Larry Dean Ballard and wife Doreen;

    Orvel was the oldest of 7 children born to James Allen (born 30 Dec 1874, died 6 Aug 1962) and Dora Elvira (Hall) Ballard (born 22 May 1881, died 3 Nov 1969). His siblings include Ben Graden Ballard, born 27 March 1907; Lydia Ioma Ballard born 27 Dec 1908; Oscar Lee Ballard, birth date unknown; Axie Ellen Ballard born 4 Mar 1915; Otis Nelson Ballard born 4 Mar 1917; and Archie Clayton Ballard born 20 Sept 1920. Orvel’s paternal grandparents were James L., born 1832, and Lucinda (Betts) (birth date unknown) Ballard, originally of Arkansas. Maternal grandparents were John W. (birth date unknown) and Ann E. Betts (born 1814), originally of Alabama.
