THE PARIS NEWS, Thursday, April 13, 2000, page 10A: 'SAN JUAN - Willie Bledsoe, 86, of San Juan died Monday, April 10, 2000, at McAllen Medical Center. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, April 14, at Kreidler Funeral Home in McAllen with the Rev. J. W. Curtis of New Braunfels officiating. Burial will be beside her late husband, Redmond Bledsoe, in Roselawn Cemetery, McAllen. Pallbearers will be Rex and Kenneth Bledsoe, Luke Basham, Stephan Palmer, Jensen Pray, and Sean Palmer. She was born Jan. 26, 1914, in Delta County, near Kensing, to Frank and Rosa Freeman, who had nine children. Mrs. Bledsoe's sister, Della Autry of San Antonio, is the only surviving child. She was preceded in death by her only son, John Rex Benefield, who was born June 27, 1934, and died in 1998; and her only daughter, Salina Layer, born in 1942 and died in 1973. She is survived by a sister-in-law, Ruby Freeman; a niece, Joyce Rash of the Houston area, and four grandchildren who are children of Mr. Benefield; stepchildren, Rex B. Bledsoe of Kerrville, Kelly Bledsoe of Houston, and Barbara King of Pharr; step daughter-in-law, Barbara Bledsoe of McAllen; and step son-in-law, Jack King of Pharr, and their families. Mrs. Bledsoe moved to the valley with her husband, Redmond Woodard Bledsoe, in 1978 and has lived in San Juan since then. The couple, who attended school together as children in Delta County, married in 1964 and they had lived in Cooper, Paris, El Paso, Dallas and Lubbock before settling in the valley. Mr. Bledsoe died May 12, 1989.'
