THE PARIS NEWS, Sunday, February 20, 2000, page 4B: 'MOUNT VERNON - Lonatish Bass, former co-owner of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000, at East Texas Medical City, Mount Vernon. Services were at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, at Harvey Funeral Home. Burial was in Mount Vernon Cemetery. She and her husband, Jimmie, bought the Optic-Herald in 1952 and operated the newspaper until 1980 when they sold to their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Robert W. Wright. Mrs. Bass was advertising manager, photographer and photo lab technician for the newspaper and she continued as advertising manager at the paper until her retirement in 1984. Her husband died in 1987. Surviving are two daughters, Dewitta Campbell and Pat Wright, both of Mount Vernon, four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Janie Banks, in 1999.'
