THE PARIS NEWS, Monday, November 15, 1999, page 4B: 'Avis Valentine Brimmage, 74, of Roxton died at 1 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 14, 1999, at her home. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16, at Roxton Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Moore officiating. Fry and Gibbs Funeral Home will make burial in Restland Cemetery, Roxton. Visitation will be from 7-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Mrs. Brimmage was born on Valentine's Day, 1925, in Roxton to Tullus and Jett King Perry. She graduated from Roxton High School and attended Paris Junior College. Mrs. Brimmage first married Grady Thorp April 24, 1943, in Roxton. He died Jan. 19, 1978. In June of 1981, she married Granville Brimmage in Roxton. He died May 19, 1989. She was retired from UARCO after 20 years of service as payroll clerk. She was very active in volunteers and community work. She was a past president of McCuistion Regional Medical Center Auxiliary, past president of Roxton Book Club, member of Roxton Garden Club, lifelong member of Roxton Baptist Church, serving as treasurer and teaching numerous age groups in Sunday school classes during her many years as a member. She was an avid basketball and volleyball fan of Roxton High School. Mrs. Brimmage is survived by children, Billie Jo and Dewayne Self of Paris, Kathy and James Cooper of Roxton, Charlotte and David Brittian of Pennsylvania, and Larry and Linda Brimmage of Farmersville; seven grandchildren, Annette Chamberlain, Howie Chamberlain, Stacie Cooper, Stephanie Cooper, Craig Self, Lauren Brittian, and Ashley Brimmage; four great-grandchildren; many loving nephews and nephews, and cousins, companion and special friend for many years, Jerry Holmes of Roxton, and special caregiver, Ms. Jerry Loyd. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Bill, Joe and Tullus Perry Jr., and one nephew, Phillip Perry. Pallbearers will be Paul Helms, Derrick Martin, Michael Moore, Gary McKnight, Jerry Hindman, and Jim Hesson. Memorials may be made to Roxton Baptist Church of Christus St. Joseph's Hospice Program.'
