THE PARIS NEWS, Friday, May 7, 1999, page 4B: 'James P. 'Pat' Bryant, 73, 1732 Preston Lane, Longview, formerly of Roxton, died Thursday, May 6, 1999, at Whispering Pines Lodge in Longview after a long and courageous struggle in illness. Fry and Gibbs Funeral Home will conduct graveside services at Restland Cemetery in Roxton at 10 a.m. Monday, May 10, with the Rev. Joe Prichett officiating. Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. The family will be at the home of Mr. Bryant's sister, Reba Echols, 315 Johnson Woods Dr., in Paris at other times. Mr. Bryant was born June 23, 1925, in Roxton to Blake K. and Ethel Patrick Bryant. He attended schools in Roxton. He enlisted in the Navy and served aboard the USS San Saba during World War II. He married Ravenell (Rae) Lassiter in June 1944. He was a member of First Christian Church of Paris and a former member of the Elks Lodge. Following retirement from his janitorial business in Arlington, Mr. Bryant returned to his place of birth near Roxton known as Paradise where he proudly enjoyed entertaining his family and friends. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed all sport activities, he especially loved hunting, fishing, and golfing. Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Cara Cline of Longview; a son, Allan Bryant and his wife Kay of Mount Pleasant; five grandchildren, Mike Cline of Houston, Kelly Cline of Longview, Kim Jones of Lathrop, Calif., Mike Roberts, and Stephanie Whitlock of Mount Pleasant; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Reba Echols of Paris; and several nieces and nephews. He was affectionately known by his grandchildren and many friends as 'Pee-Paw.' He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jack Bryan; and two sisters, Eloise Brackeen and Joy Hanna.'
