THE PARIS NEWS, Monday, March 8, 1999, page 4B: 'Dallas Ottway Blackmon Sr., 79, of Jackson, Miss., formerly of Roxton, died at 3:28 p.m. Friday, March 5, 1999, in River Oaks Hospital, Jackson. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 9, in Fry and Gibbs Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Glynn Vickers officiating. Burial will be in Restland Cemetery, Roxton. Visitation will be from 7-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Mr. Blackmon was born Dec. 27, 1919, in Harperville, Miss., to J. E. and Martha E. Putnam Blackmon. He served in the Army during World War II and married Lorene Prewitt July 6, 1940. She died Aug. 20, 1990. He was a member of Roxton United Methodist Church and was a paint contractor. Surviving are his wife, Gertie; a daughter, Gwendolyn Darnell Martin of The Colony; three sons, David Ray Blackmon of Dallas, D. O. Blackmon Jr. of Oklahoma and Darrel Glen Blackmon Sr. of Celina; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three additional children, Peggy Veazey, Eddie Moore and Anita Lovett; and three more grandchildren that became a part of his life through his union with Gertie. Pallbearers will be grandsons, David Lee, Daniel Wade, Emmitt Riley, and Derek Gene Blackmon, Darrel Glen Blackmon Jr., and Christopher Wayne and Michael Glen Martin. Memorials may be made to the Methodist Mission Home in Waco.'
