THE PARIS NEWS, Friday, February 19, 1999, page 4B: “Willie Lomas Toland, 67, of Paris died Thursday, Feb. 18, 1999, at Christus St. Joseph’s Hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sturday, Feb. 20, at Gene Roden’s Sons Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Wilbur Simmons officiating. Burial will be in Hopewell Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Mr. Toland was born June 8, 1931, in Lamar County to Weldon Stafford and Mary Bell Blair Toland. He was a Baptist and had served in the Air Force. He had been a car salesman and served as Lamar County Deputy Sheriff for four years. He was a charter member of Paris Police Reserve. Surviving are his wife, Diana Merritt Toland; sons, Scott Toland of McKinney, Keith Toland of Paris and Ronnie Toland of Massachusetts; daughters, Debbie Stringfellow and Janet Johnson, both of Paris; brothers, Bennie Toland and Welday C. Toland; a sister, Gladys Graum; and 13 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Tenydell.’ THE PARIS NEWS, Sunday, February 21, 1999, page 10A: ’Willie Toland, 67, of Paris, died Thursday, Feb. 18, 1999, at Christus St. Joseph’s Hospital. His children will receive friends at Ramseur Basptist Church 12:30-2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 21, with graveside services following at Hopewell Cemetery. The Rev. Byron Howell will officiate. He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Scott Toland of McKinney, Mr. and Mrs. Keith Toland of Paris and Mrs. Ronald Toland of Massachusetts; a daughter, Joe and Debra Stringfellow of Paris, and 10 grandsons.”
