Notes
From an untitled obituary with a handwritten date of 16 Jul 1938: 'Mrs. Sophronia Burton, widow of J. M. Burton, 80, died at her home in the Maxey community at 4 p.m. Saturday. Funeral services will be held at the Mt. Vernon cemetery Sunday at 3 p.m. conducted by Elder Herschel Brown and Woodrow Baker. Burial will be under the direction of Emberson-Brown-Roden funeral home. She is survived by five children, Mrs. Daisy Wortham, Paris; Mrs. Lena Ausmus, Ardmore, Okla.; Grover Burton, Lubbock; S.E. Burton, Maxey; J. D. Burton, Maxey; five sisters, Mrs. Fannie Nixon, California; Mrs. Julie Wortham, Paris; Mrs. Lillie Howie, Ardmore, Okla.; Mrs. Jennie Gentry, Ardmore, Okla.; Mrs. Eddie Silkwood, Ardmore, Okla.; two brothers, Jim Holcomb, Paris; Bill Holcomb, Mangum, Okla.; ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren.' Also referred to as 'Fronie.' Tombstone is inscribed, 'Mary Fronie Burton.'
