THE PARIS NEWS, Fri., Jun. 12, 1998, p. 4B: 'Madison O. Baxter, 74, of the Pinhook community died at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 11, 1998, at his home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 13, in Fry and Gibbs Funeral Home Chapel with Buddy Eddins officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Mr. Baxter was born Feb. 11, 1924, in Paris to Jesse M. and Ruth O. Tackett Baxter. He attended schools in Pinhook and Paris and was a member of the Church of Christ. He was an airplane mechanic with the U.S. Air Force during World War Il in Burma, India, and China. When he was 25, he became a metallurgist in Dallas and in 1959 began his career at Walker-McDonald in Greenville, retiring Sep. 1, 1990, at age 66. After retirement, he moved back to his home place in Pinhook doing what he loved best, sharing himself with his family. He married Tommie L. McIntosh May 16, 1952, in Dallas. Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Phyllis Davis and husband Tommy of Longview and Starla Bass and husband Sam of Pinhook; a son, Joe N. Baxter of Pinhook; five grandchildren, Lisa Tarkington of Gilmer, Tina Davis of Longview, Brandi Smith, Jeremiah Bass and Justin Bass, all of Pinhook; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Hazel Meeks and husband Elba of Pinhook, Audrey Fleming and husband Ownby of Kanawba; a brother, Roy Baxter and his wife Emma of Richardson; a brother-in-law, T. D. McIntosh and wife Edna of Longview; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Tommy Davis, Sam Bass, Jeremiah Bass, Justin Bass, Danny Tarkington, and Jimmy Hickman.'
