From an old scrapbook of newspaper clippings and obituaries donated by Zoe Hazelwood of Paris, TX; dated 1 Apr 1939. 'W. E. BASINGER DIED SATURDAY, W. E. Basinger, 70 year old farmer - stockman of Hopewell community, dropped dead at his home Saturday afternoon at 1 o'clock. The funeral service will be held Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock at the tabernacle at Hopewell, interment to be made at the cemetery there. The Rev. Woodrow Baker of Emberson, Baptist preacher will conduct the service and Brown-Roden Funeral Home has charge of arrangements. Gus Harris, Travis Badgett, John Roach, Benton Love, Lloyd Gambill and Redus Parker were named pallbearers. A native of Missouri, Basinger came to Lamar County in 1901 and had lived here ever since. His wife died 18 years ago. He leaves 4 children, Miss Katie Basinger, Floyd and Lewis Basinger of Sumner, Rt. 1, Eddie Basinger of Quanah and George Basinger of Wellington, Kans. There is one grandchild.'
