THE PARIS NEWS June 4, 1987: “Eugene Twitty, 365-24th SE, died Wednesday, May 26, at his home. Services were held Saturday, May 30, in Maxey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Aaron Jenkins officiating. Burial was in Springhill Cemetery at Powderly. Mr. Twitty was born Feb. 15, 1912, in Lamar County, a son of John and Magnolia Carter Twitty. He was a retired farmer. On May 9, 1936, he married Mable Wilson. Surviving are his wife; three sons, Roosevelt Twitty, Mike Twitty and Lorine Twitty, all of Paris; seven daughters, Shirley Blake of Paris, Morita Yates of Paris, Zena Johnson of Denton, Eloise McFadden of Arlington, Fannie Deageraux of Houston, Helen Jean Brown of Houston and Baby Ruth Hildreth of Austin; two brothers, Homer Twitty of Paris and Lonnie Twitty of Littlefield; three sisters, Edwina Council of Paris, Mrs. Palm Lawrence and Lucille Brooks, both of Paris; 28 grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.”

THE PARIS NEWS, Friday, October 25, 1940, p. 1, 6-9: Draft numbers, with the names and addresses of all the men who registered under the Selective Service Act October 16, are to be found in the Paris News today. The series of both Lamar County boards, totaling 5,791 names, are to be found from pages 6 to 9. The numbers are listed serially and it will be necessary to check the list until the registrant’s name can be found. With the vast number of men registering, it was impossible to arrange the names in alphabetical order after they had been serially arranged by the draft boards.
