THE LAMAR COUNTY ECHO, 6 Dec 1989. 'Funeral services for James Alton Thompson, 1370 Hampton Road, were conducted Tuesday in Fry and Gibbs Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Moore and the Dr. Roy Metts officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery. Bearers were John Robert Espy, Rob White, John Dodson White, Frank Shaeffer, Phil Thompson, Loyd Thompson, J.R. Haning and Donald Helm. Mr. Thompson died at St. Joseph's Hospital Saturday.' THE LAMAR COUNTY ECHO, 7 Dec 1989. 'James Alton Thompson, 76, 1370 Hampton, died at St. Joseph's Hospital at 4:02 p.m. Saturday, 2 Dec 1989. Mr. Thompson was born 12 Jan 1913, in Paris and was reared in Brookston, a son of James Nathaniel and Effie Daniel Thompson. He attended Brookston schools and A and M College. On 29 Oct 1939, he married Miriam Fuqua. He served in the Air Force during World War II where he was a staff sergeant and flight chief. He lived in Sumner and Direct until moving to Paris 10 years ago, He was a farmer and a rancher. He was a deacon in the Direct Baptist Church and was a Sunday school teacher and Sunday school superintendent. Surviving are his wife; one sister, Mrs. W.T. (Bess) Moon of Temple; seven nieces and nephews; and several great nieces and nephews.'
