LAMAR COUNTY ECHO, December 8, 1983, p. 4. 'Deport- Harmon C. Betterton of Deport died Tuesday, Nov. 29, at McCuistion Medical Center. Services were held Thursday, Dec. 1, at Grant Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Glenn Renfro officiating. Burial was in Highland Cemetery by Grant Funeral Home. Mr. Betterton was born Oct. 13, 1898, in Derma, Miss., a son of J. W. and Hettie Ashford Betterton. On August 3, 1916, [her record has 13 Aug] he married Lydia Dunn. He was a retired farmer. Surviving are his wife; one son, Weldon H. C. Betterton of New Boston; two daughters, Mrs. Neva Merle Whitlow and Mrs. Vera May Rhodes, both of Paris; three brothers, Marvin T. Betterton, Joe Lee Betterton and Tildon Betterton, all of Deport; two sisters, Mrs. Alpha Barnard of Deport and Mrs. Laura Dunn Gifford of Bogata; six grandchildren; nine great-grand- children and two great-great-grandchildren.'
