THE PARIS NEWS, 23 Mar 1963: ‘Robert Clay Bearden Sr., a former state auditor for 30 years, was found dead at about 11:30 a.m. Saturday beside his parked car at Lake Crook, where he had gone to fish. Justice of the Peace C.H. Whitney ruled Mr. Bearden died of a heart attack at about 8 or 8:30 a.m. He lived here at 206 20th NE. Services for Mr. Bearden, 68, will be held Monday at 4 p.m. at Fry and Gibbs chapel conducted by the Rev. Melville D. Nesbit, Jr., pastor of Central Presbyterian Church of which he was a member. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Mr. Bearden, son of A. H. and Suzanna (Mishler) Bearden, was born 15 Mar 1895, in Paris. He married Miss Sybil Ludwick in 1919. He was in the US Navy during World War I, serving aboard the USS North Carolina. Later he worked for Lamar State Bank here, then served as a State Comptroller Department Auditor for 30 years before his retirement three years ago due to ill health. A Mason, he was also a member of the American Legion and a former member of the Lions Coub. A deacon and elder in his church, he was a member of the Record Bible Calas. Survivors include his wife, one son, Robert C. Bearden, Jr., of Midland; a brother, P.V. Bearden of Dallas and several nieces and nephews."
On the same stone with Sybil Ludwick Bearden. Also has a military marker inscribed, "Texas - Y3 US Navy - World War I." Military marker has birth year as 1896.
