THE LAMAR COUNTY ECHO, May 9, 1974: 'Frank Clifton Bean, 70 of 2235 Briarwood, died 2 May 1974, in a local hospital. A longtime educator, he had been a teacher, college instructor, principal and superintendent for 50 years before retiring two years ago. Funeral services were held at Fry and Gibbs Funeral Home Chapel 4 May with the Rev. Ira Thompson officiating. Burial was made in Evergreen Cemetery. Born 24 Feb 1904, Mr. Bean was a son of Henry Calvin and Pearl Jane (Doss) Bean. He married the former Miss Mary Edith Mason on 14 Jun 1925. He attended Lamar County schools and received his bachelor's and master's degrees from East Texas State University. Mr. Bean had served as superintendent of schools at Bagwell, Deport and Avery. He was the first superintendent of Paul Pewitt Independent School District at Omaha-Naples. He had also been an instructor at Connors State College, Warner, Oklahoma. His last teaching assignment was at Paris Junior College. He was a member of numerous educational associations on the district, state and national levels. He was a life member of the National Education Association and was listed in Who's Who in American Education and Personalities of the South. He was honored as Oklahoma Teacher of the Year while at Connors and was a member of the Oklahoma Education Association. He was currently vice president of the East Texas School Mens Club, vice president of the National Retired Teachers Association and vice chairman of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program and was on the Paris and Lamar County Senior Citizens Council. He was a member of the American Association of Retired Persons and was serving as chairman of the Golden Year Historical Committee recognizing the 50th anniversary of Paris Junior College. Active in Lions Club work, he was a member of the Paris club and had served as district governor and zone chairman. He was past president of the Clarksville and Pewitt clubs and has assisted in the founding and reorganization of other clubs. Mr. Bean was a 32nd Degree Mason, and a member of Scottish Rite. He was a member of Oak Park United Methodist Church and taught the Brotherhood Sunday School Class. He is survived by his wife; two sons, Frank M. Bean and W. Clifton Bean, both of Houston; two grandchildren, Melissa Ann Bean and Priscilla Mason Bean, both of Houston, and a sister, Mrs. Clara Wooldridge of Irving.'
