THE PARIS NEWS, 5 Oct 1990. 'Goebel L. (Thelma) Baxter, of Paris, died Tuesday at McCuistion Regional Medical Center. Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at Fry and Gibbs Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Clayton G. Forthman and the Rev. Richard Gilmer officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Mrs. Baxter was born on 24 May 1901 in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of the late Charles Mallory Hannon and Elizabeth Shaw [another source has her maiden name as Snow]. She attended Paris public schools and graduated from Paris High School. She married Goebel L. Baxter on 26 May 1920, who preceded her in death on 9 May 1974. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She operated the Whiteway Grocery store with her husband until 1970. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Charles Baxter and Jo Ann Lee Baxter of Irving; three grandchildren, David Baxter of Louisville, and Bradley Baxter and Ronald Baxter of Irving; two great grandchildren; and a sister, Ms. Lucille Hannon of Paris.' On the same stone with Goebel L. Baxter.
