Notes
THE PARIS NEWS, Tue, May 30, 1995, p. 1A: 'Authorities Continue Investigation - Paris and Lamar County authorities are continuing their investigation into Sunday night's murder-suicide. An altercation apparently took place between Marlon Dewayne [sic] Bass, 22, and Roy Gene Jones, 40, at Jones' residence, 355-14th NW, between 11 p.m. and midnight. Jones is thought to have shot Bass in the head, who was pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace David Merritt at 12:45 a.m. Monday. A considerable amount of blood was found in the street and front yard of the residence, according to Paris Police Chief Karl Louis. Jones later drove his camper-pickup on Highway 82 west to Farm-to-Market Road 1510 near Toco. Officers arrived at Jones' vehicle in early morning hours, finding it abandoned, authorities said. The officers heard a gunshot and found Jones' body in undergrowth near the highway, apparently dead of a self-inflicted wound with a .22-caliber rifle. He was pronounced dead at 7:30 a.m. Both bodies have been sent to the Collin County Medical Examiner's Office in McKinney for autopsies. Louis said the vehicles of the subjects have been taken into custody and that other evidence is being gathered and analyzed. 'It appears to be a closed case once we get the paper work done and autopsies back,' Lamar County Sheriff B.J. McCoy said.' As far as the county's concerned, we've got a suicide,' the sheriff said.'
