THE LAMAR COUNTY ECHO, 25 May 1989. 'Augustus Lawrence (Gus) Baize, 74, 1418 Lamar Ave. died at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, 16 May 1989, at Baylor Medical Center, Dallas. Services were at 3:30 p.m. Friday, 19 May, in Fry and Gibbs Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Cline Davis and the Rev. Julian T. Hendren officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery. Mr. Baize was born in Caneyville, Ky., 9 Dec 1914, a son of Mary Elizabeth McQuady and Lawrence Baize. He attended Caneyville schools and Western Kentucky State Teachers College in Bowling Green. He was formerly employed as a sales representative for Huey-Phelp Wholesale Hardware Co. of Dallas and later as a representative for Orgill Brothers Wholesale Hardware Co. in Memphis. He was a member of Central Presbyterian Church, the Masonic lodge and was a longtime member of the Paris Municipal Band. He was a member of the East Texas State University Orchestra. He served in the Army during World War II. He married Martha Louise Beatie on 25 Jun 1950. Surviving are his wife; one nephew, Lawrence Woodard Smith and his wife Freda of Louisville, Ky.; a great nephew; and a great niece. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Arthur Smith.'
