THE PARIS NEWS, Wednesday, January 6, 1999, page 4B: "Bertha Ann Beard, 98, of Paris died Monday, Jan. 4, 1999, at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Health Center. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 7, at Gene Roden’s Sons Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jonathan Back officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. She was born Aug. 15, 1900, in Titus County to Isaac and Liza Leona Odom Johnson. She married Dewey D. Beard in April 1916 and he died in February 1941. She was a homemaker and a Pentecostal. Surviving are sons Roy D. Beard of Paris and Ted W. Beard of Brownwood; daughters, Betty Jane Follmar and Wilma L. Follmar, both of Paris, and Geraldine Haley of Terrell; 25 grandchildren; 57 great-grandchildren; 52 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Bertha Mae Jones and Imogene Sterdivant, and a son, L. D. Beard. Grandsons will be pallbearers."
