THE PARIS NEWS, Thu., Feb. 12, 1998, p. 4B: 'Mary Jo Barnes, 87, of Paris died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 1998, in Cherry Street Annex. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, in Gene Roden's Sons Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mark Harty [corrected to read 'Shupp'] officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. She was born Sep. 23, 1910, in Monkstown to Grover and Carrie Ada Stewart Slagle. She married William Ivey Barnes Sr. in 1927. He died in May 1982. She was a Baptist and a retired waitress. Surviving are three sons, Ardie Barnes and wife Shirley, Joe Barnes and wife Dianne and Grover Barnes, all of Paris; two daughters, Mary Friday and Carol Smith and husband Michael D., all of Paris; 17 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, William I. 'Bill' Barnes.'
