THE PARIS NEWS, Monday, Feb. 16, 1970, p. 8: 'Roy P. Brothers, 68, of Powderly, retired mechanic for Continental Trailways Bus Company, died of illness Sunday at Methodist Hospital in Dallas. Friends will be received in Paris Monday between 7:30 and 9 p.m. at Leverett and Steele Funeral Home, where the service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be made in Long Cemetery at Powderly. Born at Murfreesboro [incorrect], Tenn., May 24, 1901, son of James P. [should be B.] and Martha Nichols Brothers, Roy Brothers was a deacon of Powderly Baptist Church and member of Paris Masonic Lodge No. 27. He leaves his wife, the former Martha Maddox, whom he married at Powderly in 1922; eight children: Duane Brothers, Augusta Ga.; Thomas Brother, Mesquite; Benny R. Brothers, Los Angeles, CA.; Mrs. J. H. Bean, Paris; Mrs. John Pope, Houston; Mrs Mike Doyal, Mt. Pleasant; Mrs. Harold Westbrooks and Mrs. Johnny Faucett, Powderly. Also 24 other descendants; a brother and two sisters: Marshall Brothers and Mrs. Curtis Jackson, Powderly, and Mrs. A. R. Embree, Kaufman; a half-brother and a half-sister; Coy Price, Oklahoma City, OK and Mrs. Ward Penington, Dallas.'

Son of James Bennett and Martha Etta Nichols Nichols Brothers. Born in Fosterville, Rutherford County, TN. He married Martha Jane Maddox 16 Apr 1922 in Powderly, Lamar County. He worked for Dixie Bus Lines and Continental Bus Lines for many years. He was also a farmer and peanut thrasher, and invented many tools of his own to aid in his work. Father of nine children, Birmah Ellen, Gwendolyn Mignon, Royal Duane, Dorothy Jean, Thomas Glynn, Bennie Royce, Emma Lois, Barbara Ann, and Sharon Diane Brothers. He was a deacon at Powderly Baptist Church, and member of the Masonic Lodge. He died of emphysema at Methodist Hospital in Dallas.
